Pachypodium succulentum (Caudex form)

Pachypodium succulentum is a succulent plant native to South Africa, which is part of the Apocynaceae family. It is appreciated for its succulent trunk, interesting leaves and flowers, being a popular choice for succulent plant collectors and cactus lovers.

Size and shape : Pachypodium succulentum is a dwarf shrub with a short, thick and juicy trunk (caudex), which can reach heights of up to 30-45 cm. The trunk is covered with short thorns and the branches grow near the top of the plant.

Leaves : The leaves are green, lanceolate, about 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) long at maturity. They are arranged spirally around the top of the branches and fall in the dry season, leaving the plant dormant.

Flowers : Pachypodium succulentum produces tubular flowers with white or pale pink petals that appear in spring or summer. The flowers are arranged in inflorescences at the top of the branches.

Cultivation : Pachypodium succulentum prefers well-drained soils and exposure to full or partial sun. The plant is resistant to drought and requires moderate watering. In the case of outdoor cultivation, it is suitable for USDA hardiness zones 9-11, where temperatures do not drop below -6.7 degrees Celsius.
