Orchid Paphiopedilum wolterianum (syn. Paph. appletonianum)
The genus name derives from the name of the city of Paphos, Cyprus, dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite (also known as Paphia), where legend says she was incarnated from sea foam, along with the word pedilon (ancient Greek), meaning sandal or slipper. Orchid Names of this genus, in Romanian, namely Papipul lui Venus, is a translation of the scientific name. Although there are no species of Paphiopedilum in Cyprus, or at least in Europe, for a long time they were associated with species of the genus Cypripedium, which are present in the area Mediterranean, including the rest of Europe, as well as in Romania, where the species Cypripedium calceolus (Lady's Slipper) is present and registered with the status of a Natural Monument. The actual species of Pahiopedilum, present in the horticultural trade, and which form the basis of most of the available hybrids currently, they are of East Asian origin.

Note: Young specimens in their first bloom. The flower is fragile and may be damaged during transport. The leaves of this variety are naturally yellow.
