Matucana haynii is a cactus native to the mountainous regions of Peru, appreciated for its globular to short cylindrical body and dense spination, which gives it a highly decorative appearance. As the plant matures, the stem may elongate while retaining its well-defined ribs and spine-covered areoles.

The species exhibits significant natural variability, with several subspecies recognized. It is an interesting collector's cactus, valued both for its spination and for the characteristic flowering of the genus Matucana.
