Hoya solokensis

Hoya solokensis is an accepted botanical species, described in 2019 from Solok, Sumatra. In its habitat, it was documented as an epiphytic shrub in an evergreen forest at approximately 1,000 m altitude. Unlike most Hoya cultivated as vines, this species develops erect or spreading stems and does not have a typical climbing habit. The combination of its shrubby growth, thin foliage, and white, tubular flowers gives it a distinctive presence in a collection.

Foliage. The leaves are elliptic, thin, and non-succulent, with pointed bases and tips. The upper surface is medium green, while the underside is paler; the midrib and lateral veins remain visible, enhancing the foliage’s natural appearance.

Flowers. The inflorescences consist of several white flowers with a tubular base and narrow lobes that curve outward. The peduncles are short and produce flowers only once, an important characteristic compared with many Hoya that rebloom from the same peduncle. The flowers are fragrant, according to the product’s commercial information.

Commercial note. Its shrubby habit should not be mistaken for a lack of vigor: the stems may remain erect or spread laterally. The plant’s shape and foliage density naturally vary between specimens. The ceramic pot is not included in the price.
