Echinopsis marsoneri, known in horticulture mainly as Rebutia marsoneri, is a small South American cactus appreciated for its compact form and, above all, its spectacular flowering. Its green, globular body is covered with areoles bearing fine spines, and mature plants can produce numerous offsets, eventually forming compact clumps.

In spring and at the beginning of the growing season, mature specimens can develop numerous yellow to golden-yellow flowers, very large in relation to the plant’s size. The flowers characteristically appear from the lateral and lower areas of the body, and a well-developed specimen can produce several flowers simultaneously.

It is a cactus suitable both for collectors and for those looking for a compact, relatively easy-to-grow species capable of abundant flowering when provided with sufficient light and a proper dormant period during the cold season.

🌞 Growing conditions:

• Light: prefers plenty of light and can benefit from several hours of direct sunlight. Plants grown in a greenhouse or protected spaces should be gradually acclimatized to intense sunlight.
• Substrate: porous, very well-drained, and containing a significant mineral component. Excessive water retention should be avoided.
• Watering: moderate during the active growing period; allow the substrate to dry thoroughly between waterings. Water must not be left standing in the pot.
• Winter dormancy: a cooler, dry period during winter is beneficial and helps stimulate flowering in the following season.
• Temperature: prefers moderate to warm temperatures during the active period. During dormancy, it can tolerate low temperatures if kept dry; however, container-grown specimens should be protected from severe frost and excessive moisture at low temperatures.
• Fertilizing: during the growing period, it can be fertilized moderately with a product intended for cacti and succulents.
