Full description and specifications

Astrophytum ornatum is a special succulent cactus, originally from Mexico, known for its columnar shape and the distinct patterns of white stripes that cover the surface of the plant. This is one of the largest representatives of the Astrophytum genus and is appreciated both for its ornamental appearance and for its resistance in difficult environmental conditions.

The flowers appear at the top of the cactus and are light yellow, with a diameter of approximately 5-6 cm. They bloom in the summer and are followed by small fruits covered with peristeria.

Care:

  • Light: Astrophytum ornatum prefers direct exposure to the sun. It is important that they receive enough light to grow healthy and bloom.
  • Soil: It needs a well-drained soil, preferably a special mixture for cacti, with the addition of sand or gravel to ensure efficient drainage.
  • Watering: Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. During the winter, the plant should be watered rarely, to prevent rotting of the roots.
  • Temperature: It is a plant resistant to high temperatures, but must be protected from frost. The ideal temperature for growth is between 20-30°C.
  • Fertilization: It is recommended to use a fertilizer for cacti during the period of active growth, spring and summer, applied once a month.
