Vinca minor 'Illumination' is an ornamental cultivar of periwinkle, valued for its bright foliage, variegated in shades of golden yellow and green, as well as for its delicate blue-violet flowers, which appear mainly in spring. The plant has a trailing growth habit and gradually forms dense carpets, making it highly suitable for ground cover in partially shaded or shaded areas.

It is commonly known as Periwinkle or Lesser Periwinkle. The 'Illumination' cultivar stands out for its golden-yellow leaf centers surrounded by green margins, making it decorative even outside the flowering period.

  • Watering: moderate; once established, it tolerates short periods of drought, but grows better in moderately moist soil.

  • Fertilization: light fertilization in spring to support growth and foliage.

  • Pruning: can be cut back after flowering or whenever control of its spread is desired.

  • Use: excellent as ground cover in areas where grass or other plants grow with difficulty.

❄️ Cold hardiness

Well-established plants in the garden generally withstand temperatures down to approximately -20°C. Young plants and those grown in containers are more sensitive and should be protected during periods of severe frost.
