Hoya latifolia sp. ‘Sarawak’

Hoya sp. Sarawak, marketed under the name Hoya latifolia sp. 'Sarawak', is a collector's climbing Hoya, notable for its large, thick and glossy foliage. The leaves are broad, oval to almost round, with prominent venation and silver splash markings. It produces fragrant, cream-pink umbels that produce abundant nectar. The vigorous vines benefit from stable support and room to grow.

Foliage and growth. Mature leaves have a firm texture, a rounded base and well-defined veins. The splash can naturally vary from one leaf to another and should not be confused with variegation. The plant has a vining habit and can produce long shoots; these should be trained gently, as they can break when bent or handled.

Flowers and fragrance. In cultivation, plants distributed under the name Sarawak are known for their umbels of waxy, cream to pale pink, fragrant flowers that produce nectar. The exact color and fragrance intensity may vary between clones and depending on growing conditions; the Sarawak label should be kept together with the plant's provenance.

Hoya latifolia G.Don is an accepted botanical species, native from Myanmar to western Malesia, including Borneo. For this plant, Sarawak remains a horticultural label, and its exact affiliation with H. latifolia has not been demonstrated by a consulted primary botanical source.
