Full description and specifications

Cattleya dowiana - botanical species found in Costa Rica and Panama. It is a medium-sized epiphytic orchid that grows in moderate to warm temperatures. The plant populates the crowns of the trees on the Caribbean coast, at altitudes between 250 and 1200 meters. It has stick-shaped pseudobulbs, with heights varying between 8 and 20 cm, which show prominent veins when they are dehydrated. When they are young, these pseudobulbs are partially covered by basal sheaths that decompose over time. Each pseudobulb bears a single fleshy leaf, elliptic-oblong in shape and light green in color. The plant blooms mainly at the end of summer and autumn, developing a terminal inflorescence of approximately 12.5 cm long, which appears on a mature pseudobulb. The inflorescence bears between 5 and 6 flowers, with a strong and complex perfume reminiscent of lemon, spices and vanilla. The flowers are large, extremely spectacular, with a lip in shades of cyclam-magenta or garnet with prominent yellow veins.

Flower size: approx. 15 cm
