Begonija Maculata 'Silverspot'

Begonia Maculata is a striking ornamental plant, valued for its elongated, dark green leaves covered with distinctive silver spots. Native to the tropical regions of Brazil, this plant belongs to the Begoniaceae family and is one of the most popular species of decorative indoor begonias.

Care conditions

• Light: Prefers strong indirect light but can also tolerate moderate light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.

• Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist but avoid overwatering. It is recommended to water when the top layer of soil has slightly dried out.

• Humidity: Loves high humidity. Spraying the leaves with water can help, but not directly on them, to prevent spots or fungal diseases.

• Soil: Needs a well-drained, airy substrate rich in organic matter. A mix of peat, perlite, and flower soil is ideal.

• Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18-26°C and does not tolerate cold below 15°C.

• Fertilizing: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring-summer).

Additional tips

• For compact and lush growth, pinching the growing tips is recommended.

• It can be easily propagated by stem cuttings, placed in water or directly in the substrate.

• Avoid frequent moves, as the plant can become stressed and lose leaves.

• It is sensitive to pests such as woolly aphids and thrips, so inspect the leaves regularly.

Some specimens may show mechanical defects/scars and/or discolorations on the leaves, but under optimal care conditions, new leaves will develop normally.
