Alocasia Portodora, sometimes also called Alocasia x portora, is an ornamental hybrid from the Araceae family, known for its impressive size and leaves with strongly wavy edges. Although its name suggests a connection to the species Alocasia odora and Alocasia portei, this hybrid has distinct features that set it apart in indoor or outdoor settings.
Recommended growing conditions
• Light: prefers strong but indirect light; can also tolerate partial shade. Direct exposure to intense sunlight, especially during peak hours, should be avoided to prevent leaf burns.
• Humidity and watering: keep the soil slightly moist, not soaked. Alocasia Portodora appreciates higher air humidity, being native to tropical areas. Overwatering can lead to rhizome rot, while too much dryness slows growth and causes leaf yellowing.
• Soil: a substrate rich in organic matter and well drained is recommended. A mix based on peat, shredded bark, perlite, or coarse sand can be used.
• Temperatures: prefers warm environments without sudden changes. Avoid very low temperatures, which can negatively affect roots and foliage.
• Fertilizing: during the active growth period, periodic application (once every few weeks) of a balanced fertilizer in moderate doses helps develop large and healthy leaves.
Note: Alocasia is a sensitive plant. Therefore, you may receive these plants with some leaf imperfections, but these do not affect the plant’s viability.
Height including pot: approx. 50 cm
