Begonia barsalouxiae is a botanical begonia species native to Honduras, where it grows naturally in humid tropical regions.

The plant is especially appreciated for its large, asymmetrical leaves, with a velvety texture and spectacular patterns in shades of very dark green, olive green, and lighter green along the veins. In some specimens, the foliage may develop bronze tones, while the undersides may display reddish hues.

☀️ Growing conditions and care

  • Light: prefers medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid intense direct sunlight.

  • Watering: moderate and regular; keep the substrate slightly moist, but never waterlogged.

  • Substrate: airy, loose, and well-draining, while still capable of retaining a moderate amount of moisture.

  • Humidity: appreciates high atmospheric humidity, typical of tropical botanical begonias.

  • Temperature: prefers consistent temperatures of approximately 18-26°C.

  • Ventilation: good air circulation is important, especially in high-humidity conditions.

  • Fertilization: light to moderate during the active growing period.

  • Warning: avoid allowing the substrate to dry out excessively, but also avoid stagnant water around the roots.

🌱 Recommended substrate

For Begonia barsalouxiae, we recommend a fine, airy, organic-rich, and well-draining substrate that allows consistent moisture to be maintained without saturating the roots.

📌 Note: Begonia barsalouxiae is a botanical species and may display natural variations in leaf shape, color intensity, vein pattern, and the hues on the undersides. Young specimens may have leaves with different shapes and proportions compared with mature plants.

As a delicate plant, it may show leaf imperfections that are natural to the species and are sometimes accentuated by transportation. These do not affect the plant's viability.

Small terrarium begonias are sensitive and fragile plants, sold as baby plants. The foliage may arrive with noticeable cosmetic damage after transportation, including spotted, bent, partially broken, scorched along the edges, partially dried, or damaged leaves caused by friction and handling. These conditions are considered normal for this category of plants and do not affect the specimen's viability if the plant has a healthy base. We recommend purchasing these begonias only for people who understand the sensitivity of terrarium plants and can provide high humidity, stable temperatures, and indirect light.

Note for international orders: These plants are sensitive and they may not arrive in the best condition after a long shipment, especially in the hot summer. If you order them, it is your own responsibility.
