Adenium obesum 'Golden Bambi' (variegated)
Adenium, also commonly known as the Desert Rose, is a spectacular succulent species native to the arid regions of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It is prized for its sculptural caudex—the thick stem resembling a natural bonsai—and its vibrant flowers, which can range in color from red, pink, white, and yellow to exotic combinations.
💡 Care:
Light: Adenium prefers bright light and direct sunlight, for a minimum of 5–6 hours per day. Insufficient light reduces flowering.
Temperature: Ideally between 22–35°C.
Watering: Water moderately, only after the substrate has dried out completely. Excess water can cause root rot.
Soil: Requires a very well-draining substrate with an airy structure and a low organic matter content.
Fertilizing: During the growing season (March–September), a balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied monthly at reduced doses.
Dormancy: During the colder period (October–February), reduce watering significantly. The plant may enter a partial or complete dormancy, losing its leaves.
🌱 Secret Garden recommendation:
👉 For healthy roots and excellent drainage, use Secret Garden Professional Substrate for Cacti & Succulents — a balanced blend of light peat, coconut fiber, perlite, sand and pumice, perfect for Adenium and other species adapted to arid regions.
🌸 The flowers of this variety may display different shades depending on the season, light, and microclimate.
⚠️ Note regarding variegation:
Variegation (the marbled or bicolored appearance of the leaves) depends directly on exposure to sunlight. Plants grown in a shaded greenhouse or locations without direct sunlight may have predominantly green leaves, with reduced or absent variegation. Variegation becomes more pronounced and visible once the plant is exposed to bright light and direct sunlight.
📌 Important notes:
These Adenium specimens are imported from Asia without substrate (bareroot) and without leaves. After being replanted in fresh substrate, the plants gradually resume vegetative growth.
👉 It is normal for the plants to show signs of dehydration, missing leaves, or reduced roots, but they will fully regenerate within a few weeks if kept in a warm, bright location and watered moderately.
🌿 Each plant is unique and may display natural variations in caudex shape (rounder, elongated, or asymmetrical), as well as differences in thickness, roots, or vegetative buds. These variations are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.
