Hoya 'Patricia' (Hoya darwinii x Hoya elliptica)

Hoya 'Patricia' is the hybrid between Hoya darwinii and Hoya elliptica, obtained by Antone Jones. The mother plant was Hoya darwinii. The foliage is elliptical, glossy and green, with paler veins; in bright light, it may develop a reddish tint. The flowers are star-shaped, with a white to pink, finely hairy corolla and a burgundy corona. They are fragrant and last longer than the flowers of Hoya darwinii. It has a vining growth habit. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are opposite, elliptic-ovate, firm and glossy, medium green, with lighter venation visible on the leaf surface. They have no splash and no variegation. In intense light, the leaf blade may develop reddish shades. The stems are thin and brown, with a vining habit that can be trained or left to trail. In cultivation, this hybrid is easier to keep than the parent plant sold as Hoya darwinii. The ceramic pot shown in the photograph is not included in the price. This line is sensitive to long transport: after too many days in a box, leaves may drop or roots may be lost; the risk is assumed when ordering.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbel is dense, with star-shaped flowers. The corolla is white or pale pink, finely hairy, with slightly reflexed lobes; the corona is burgundy red. The number of flowers per umbel varies, usually around 10–20. The duration of a flowering period is horticulturally described as longer than that of Hoya darwinii, by a few days, rather than as a guaranteed timeframe. The tag confirms the presence of fragrance; we do not specify a single scent note. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The parentage is Hoya darwinii x Hoya elliptica, with darwinii as the mother plant. Hoya elliptica Hook.f. is an accepted species, native from Thailand to western Malesia. It circulates as EPC-1020.
