Hoya globulosa - collectible plant with spectacular flowering

Hoya globulosa is the accepted species; Hoya villosa is a synonym, not an accepted name. It is an epiphytic or lithophytic vine with pubescent foliage, prominent veins, and nearly spherical umbels. The flowers are cream or straw-colored, with a pink or reddish corona at the base, and are fragrant. The botanical identity remains Hoya globulosa, even though the villosa label is also in circulation. The fluffy flowers have a distinctive, velvety appearance.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is oblong or elliptic, leathery, with a thick midrib and visible lateral veins. The surface may be more or less hairy; the pubescence sometimes disappears on older leaves. The color is green, with darker veins. It has a climbing vine habit, not a compact shrub-like form.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbels are globose, with numerous flowers. The corolla is described as straw-colored or cream; the corona has a pink, pinkish-brown, or reddish base. The flowers are fragrant. The shade, umbel density, and fragrance intensity may vary between specimens. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.
