Hoya compacta 'Mauna Loa' (variegated) - fragrant flowers

Hoya carnosa 'Mauna Loa' is a variegated cultivar with a trailing growth habit, recognized for its dense vines and thick, twisted, rope-like foliage. The variegation appears in the center of the leaf, in shades of cream, white, and yellow-green, surrounded by green margins. This combination of compact form and central pattern distinguishes the cultivar from the green 'Compacta' form. It produces umbels of pale pink, fragrant flowers, partially hidden among the fleshy leaves.

Characteristics. The leaves are semi-succulent, waxy, folded, and twisted, densely arranged along the vines. The light-colored central area is surrounded by a green margin and may include paler green patches. This feature is central variegation, not splash. Occasional silver splash markings may also appear, separate from the variegated pattern. The intensity and distribution of the colors naturally vary between leaves.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbels may contain approximately 20–40 waxy-looking flowers. The corolla is pale pink, while the center features more intense shades ranging from pink to purplish red. The flowers are fragrant, with a scent described as somewhat reminiscent of almonds, and last approximately 5–7 days, depending on the microclimate.

Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.
