Hoya callistophylla D6

Hoya callistophylla is an epiphytic vine native to Borneo, cultivated mainly for its thick foliage, with very prominent pinnate veins, dark green against a green background. Mature leaves can reach approximately 25 cm in length and 9 cm in width; the stems can become long, although growth is fairly slow. This batch consists of young specimens. Under good growing conditions, umbels of small, lightly fragrant flowers appear, ranging from pale yellow to cream or golden. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is thick and firm, elliptic or lanceolate, with prominent veins. On young leaves, the veins may be paler before becoming darker. A mature specimen can produce long vines, but the plants in this batch have few leaves and have not yet reached the species’ maximum size.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are small and star-shaped, grouped in umbels of several dozen blooms. Their color is described in cultivation sources as pale yellow, cream, or golden, sometimes with brownish shades. They are fragrant, with a light scent. Individual flowers last only a short time on the plant.

Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya callistophylla T.Green is an accepted botanical name, published in 2000. The species is native to Borneo, where it grows as a vine in a humid tropical biome.
