Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' - kirjavat lehdet
Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' is a unique and highly decorative variety of Fatsia, valued for its large, palmate leaves with a spectacular white-cream variegation pattern resembling a "spider web".
Unlike the classic green form, this variety has a much brighter and more elegant appearance. The plant has a vertical and vigorous growth habit, with large, glossy, and well-cut leaves that give it a refined tropical look.
Main features:
- Large, palmate leaves with distinctive white-cream variegation (spider web effect)
- Strong and bright decorative appearance
- Vertical and vigorous growth
- Size: 1.2 – 2 m tall (in pot at maturity)
- Air-purifying plant
Care:
- Light: bright indirect light or bright partial shade. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can burn the white areas of the leaves.
- Temperature: prefers moderate climates. It is semi-hardy (Hardiness Zone 7–10). Can tolerate temperatures down to about -12°C for short periods when well established. In colder climates (such as zone 7), winter protection or moving the plant to a cool but bright space is recommended. Tested in Romania: The plant successfully survived -16°C in a sheltered spot without protection, with only partial foliage damage.
- Watering: moderate – allow the substrate to partially dry out between waterings. Sensitive to overwatering.
- Humidity: medium to high.
- Substrate: rich, well-drained, and slightly acidic.
- Fertilization: light, from spring to autumn.
Uses: Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' is mainly grown as an ornamental indoor plant or for protected terraces and balconies. Thanks to its large leaves and spectacular variegation, it is very suitable for living rooms, hallways, or bright spaces.
Note: Variegated Fatsia varieties grow more slowly than the green form and are more sensitive to light conditions and extreme temperatures. If new leaves appear less variegated, this is a normal phenomenon related to light.
