Hoya 'Sunrise' is a commercial hybrid with elliptical, dark green foliage and visible veins. In bright light, the leaves may develop red or bronze shades; this is not variegation. The growth habit is trailing or climbing vine-like. The flowers are star-shaped, creamy and fragrant, and may develop a pink tint. The commercial parentage listed in the catalogue is Hoya lacunosa ssp. pallidiflora x Hoya obscura, a cross attributed to Michael Miyashiro in 1992. The name Sunrise is not a botanical species. This lot is a full pot containing 4 plants at different stages.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are elliptical, with pointed tips, small to medium in size, and have visible pinnate veins. In low or medium light, they remain green. In intense light, the foliage may turn red or bronze, especially along the edges and on the underside; this is not variegation. This lot is a full pot, mostly green, with only a few bronze leaves. Intense coloration is not guaranteed on every leaf. The growth habit is trailing or climbing vine-like. Vine length varies. Long vines may show transport or handling damage.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are star-shaped, with reflexed petals in cream or yellowish-white shades. In bright light, they may develop a pink tint. The corona is open and yellowish green. The typical commercial duration of an umbel is approximately 7 days. The flowers are fragrant, with a sweet scent; intensity varies. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Horticultural identity. 'Sunrise' is a hybrid cultivar. pallidiflora x Hoya obscura. Both parents belong to accepted species: Hoya lacunosa Blume and Hoya obscura Elmer ex C.M.Burton. The hybrid was produced by Michael Miyashiro in Hawaii in 1992. The cultivar name was published later by Carol Noel. Materials labelled 'Sunrise' are also in circulation and may not necessarily match the cultivar standard.

Substrate: use an airy, well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic species. We recommend the professional substrate for Hoya and Anthurium - SG Mix.
