Hoya pubicalyx 'Pink Dragon'

Hoya marketed as Hoya pubicalyx 'Pink Dragon' is a collector's cultivar with a climbing habit and elongated, glossy green foliage. In collections, 'Pink Dragon' refers to a form with pink flowers, distinct from 'White Dragon' and the species Hoya celata. The leaves are usually non-variegated. Under good growing conditions, umbels of fragrant, pink, star-shaped flowers may appear. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions. The vines can be trained onto a support or left to trail.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are elongated, glossy, leathery, and deep green or lime green. The commercial 'Dragon' series is often described as lacking silver splash, but batches are not uniform: some sources also note subtle marbling. If it appears, splash is not variegation. The plant has a vining habit: the stems can be trained onto a support or left to trail.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are star-shaped and pink, sometimes with a pearly sheen, and are grouped in umbels. Horticultural sources report a pink corolla and corona, along with a noticeable fragrance. The number of flowers per umbel and the exact shade may vary. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Horticultural identity. 'Pink Dragon' is a label attached to Hoya pubicalyx Merr., an accepted species native to the Philippines (Luzon). It is not a separate botanical taxon. The number GKMP-8008C, from Philippine material obtained from Forest Treasures, also appears in collections. It is not the same plant as 'White Dragon' and is not a synonym of the species Hoya celata.
