Hoya bella 'Anneke Buis' (albomarginata) - developed specimens

Hoya bella 'Anneke Buis' (albomarginata) is a cultivar with marginal variegation: the center of the leaf remains green, while the edge is cream or white. It appeared as a spontaneous mutation in the 1980s, in the Buis family’s greenhouses in Aalsmeer. The foliage is small and oval-lanceolate, growing on thin, pendulous shoots. It produces umbels of white, star-shaped flowers with pink or purple coronas. The flowers are fragrant. The species is native from Assam to Myanmar.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is small, glossy, oval or lanceolate, with a pointed tip. The light-colored band is located along the edge; the center remains green. The width of the margin varies from one leaf to another, while new shoots may be more yellow or almost cream-colored. The growth habit is compact and pendulous: the shoots are allowed to trail rather than being trained onto a tall support.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are star-shaped and white, with pink or purple coronas, grouped in pendulous umbels. They are described as identical to those of the green form. They are fragrant, although the intensity may vary. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Botanical identity and origin. Hoya bella Hook. is an accepted botanical name, published in 1848.
