Adenium obesum 'Anka'
Adenium, also known by the common name Desert Rose, is a striking succulent species native to the arid regions of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It is valued for its sculptural caudex – a thick stem resembling a natural bonsai – and for its vibrant flowers, which can range in shades of red, pink, white, yellow, or exotic combinations.
💡 Care:
Light: Adenium prefers strong light and direct sun, at least 5–6 hours a day. Lack of light reduces flowering.
Temperature: Ideal between 22–35°C
Watering: Water moderately, only after the soil has completely dried. Excess water can cause root rot.
Soil: Requires a very well-drained substrate, with an airy structure and low organic matter content.
Fertilizing: During the growing season (March–September), a balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied monthly in small doses.
Dormancy: In the cold period (October–February), watering is significantly reduced, and the plant may enter a partial or full rest phase, losing its leaves.
🌱 Secret Garden Recommendation:
👉 For healthy roots and excellent drainage, use Secret Garden Professional Substrate for Cacti & Succulents — a balanced mix of light peat, coconut fiber, perlite, sand, and pumice stone, perfect for Adenium and other species adapted to arid areas.
🌸 The flowers of this variety may show different shades depending on the season, light, and microclimate.
📌 Important note:
These Adenium specimens are imported from Asia bare-root and leafless. After replanting in fresh substrate, the plants gradually resume vegetative growth.
👉 It is normal for the plants to show signs of dehydration, missing leaves, or reduced roots, but these will fully regenerate within a few weeks if kept in a warm, bright place and watered moderately.
🌿 Each plant is unique and may show natural variations in the shape of the caudex (more rounded, elongated, or asymmetrical), as well as differences in thickness, roots, or growth buds. These variations are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.
