Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' - exemplare bogate

Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ is one of the rarest and most spectacular variegated varieties, highly appreciated by collectors for the unique way it combines shades of green, cream, yellow, orange, and red. Each leaf is different, and the serrated edges bring a dramatic, almost “on fire” look, hence its iconic name.

Initially, the plant was named ‘Henderson’s Pride’, after the hybridizer Keith Henderson (Asiatica Nursery). Although he did not officially reveal the parents of the hybrid, it is believed to come from the crossbreeding of:

• Philodendron tortum (polypodioides) – with dissected, architectural foliage

• Philodendron wendlandii – known for its velvety texture and resilience

Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ has nectar-producing glands on the underside of the leaves. These attract ants, and the plant benefits from the substances secreted by them, as well as the protection that ant colonies provide against other pests. It is a rare mutualistic relationship, found in only a few species of araceae.

• Light: strong indirect light; insufficient light may reduce variegation.

• Watering: moderate; allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

• Humidity: >60% for firm leaves and optimal coloration.

• Soil: airy, rich in organic and mineral materials, with excellent drainage.

• Temperature: 18–28°C; avoid cold drafts.
