Paphiopedilum San Remo Orchid

This group of Paphiopedilum exists only in cultivation, being the result of selective crossbreeding of botanical species and their hybrids. The known parent species for the American Hybrid group are Paphiopedilum insignie, P. gratrixianum, P. villosum, P. spicerianum, P. barbigerum, P. coccineum.
Contrary to expectations, this garden hybrid does not originate from the United States of America. At the end of the 19th century, when the cultivation of paphiopedilum hybrids reached its peak, the first obstacle also appeared, represented by the outbreak of the First World War. The outbreak of the Second World War, which reminded enthusiasts of previous losses, caused the massive shipment of works of art, artifacts, and other valuable collectible items by museum curators and public and private collections to the United States of America, in order to protect them from potential destruction. This trend was also followed by numerous hybridizing horticulturists from countries such as Great Britain, Denmark, France, and even Germany. In this way, the USA became the largest repository of the most valuable collectible items from all over Europe.
