Setiechinopsis mirabilis – miniature cactus with fragrant nocturnal flowers
Setiechinopsis mirabilis is a remarkable cactus native to Argentina, appreciated for the spectacular contrast between the plant’s small size and its very large flowers. It is a species with a cylindrical stem, green to brownish-green, covered with ribs and fine spines, which remains compact even at maturity.
The real spectacle, however, appears during the flowering period. It produces large, white, fragrant flowers that open at night. The flowers have a long, slender floral tube and can become almost as impressive as the entire plant. Flowering is short-lived, with the flowers adapted to nocturnal pollination.
Thanks to its compact size, unusual appearance, and nocturnal flowering, Setiechinopsis mirabilis is a very interesting species for cactus collectors, especially those looking for less common plants.
