Dendrobium lasianthera is a large epiphytic orchid endemic to the lowland forests of Papua and New Guinea, found at altitudes below 100 meters. This species prefers a warm, humid climate, often found in low, moist, and humid areas, often near rivers and streams.

Morphological characteristics:

Stems: The stems are erect, cylindrical and can reach considerable heights, sometimes up to 2-3 meters. 

Leaves: The leaves are elliptical, leathery and arranged alternately along the stem, remaining on the plant throughout the year.

Flowers: The flowers are spectacular, measuring about 2.5 inches (6.25 cm) across and are grouped in inflorescences of 10 to 30 flowers. The color of the petals and sepals ranges from shades of yellow and brown to burgundy and red, depending on the variety. The flowers are often fragrant, and the fragrance becomes more intense in bright light and high temperatures. The lifespan of the flowers is remarkable, lasting up to three months.

Flower size: approx. 6 cm
