Austrocylindropuntia subulata, also known as Opuntia subulata, is a cactus native to the Peruvian Andes, renowned for its green, vigorous, and branched stems covered with small conical leaves and short spines. With its unmistakable appearance, it adds an exotic and architectural touch to any succulent plant collection.

🌿 Botanical characteristics:

  • Family: Cactaceae
  • Origin: Peru, Ecuador
  • Leaves: small, elongated (subulate), persistent on young plants
  • Stems: green, erect, columnar in appearance with dense branching

  • Light: requires plenty of light, even direct sun for a few hours a day
  • Watering: moderate – only when the substrate is completely dry; water rarely in winter

  • Soil: very well drained, with high mineral content
