Hoya 'Sweet Scent' fragrant

Hoya 'Sweet Scent' is a collection label, not a botanical species. The name is used for a naturally occurring hybrid that appeared at the Homchun nursery in Samut Sakhorn Province, Thailand. The plant is valued for its thick, glossy, oval-shaped foliage and dense umbels of pink, star-shaped flowers with a darker corona. The leaves may have subtle spotting and visible veins. The vines can be trained on a support or allowed to grow pendulously. The hybrid's parents are not known with certainty.

Horticultural identity. The name 'Sweet Scent' retains the sales label. In collector sources, the name is associated with the Homchun nursery, whose name in Thai evokes a pleasant fragrance. It is a natural greenhouse hybrid. The parents remain unknown; horticultural sources have suggested, without confirmation: Hoya parasitica/verticillata, Hoya diversifolia, Hoya obovata, or Hoya excavata. These assumptions are not presented here as a pedigree.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are thick, glossy, ovate to nearly round, and medium green, with visible veins. Some leaves may have subtle spots or markings. Horticultural sources describe leaves approximately 7–10 cm long and 5–7 cm wide; size varies with age and cultivation. The plant has a vining habit, suitable for growing on a support or as a trailing plant.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers appear in dense, nearly spherical umbels. The corolla is cream-pink, often reflexed, with pinker tips, while the corona is pink and darker toward the center. The shade may be lighter or more intense depending on the light. The flowers are fragrant, with a sweet, moderately intense scent, horticulturally described as weaker than that of Hoya parasitica. They may produce nectar. The lifespan of an umbel is commercially stated as approximately 4–5 days. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.
