Hoya mindorensis 'Pink' - fragrant (developed specimens)

Hoya mindorensis 'Pink' is the pink-flowered selection of the species. The species is native from the Philippines to northern and central Borneo. It has flexible stems and glossy, oval-elliptic to elongated leaves, with a prominent midrib. In bright light, the foliage may develop reddish tones; this coloration is not variegation. The flowers are borne in dense, almost spherical umbels, with a reflexed corolla and fine hairs, and are described as fragrant. Pink is the color label. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and growth habit. The leaves are glossy, elliptic or oval-elongated, with a prominent midrib. In strong light, the leaf blade may turn reddish; this growing response is not variegation. The growth habit is that of an epiphytic vine. The stems can be trained on a support or left trailing. Vine length varies from one specimen to another. Some leaves may have mechanical damage or scars.

Flowers and fragrance. The umbels are compact and almost spherical. The corolla curves backward and is covered with fine, translucent hairs. The corona is star-shaped. 'Pink' is described as having a pink corolla and a pink corona with a red center. We do not identify it with lot PG-12 and do not assign it to a subspecies. The fragrance is present and often subtle. The species may flower even on relatively young plants. Flowering depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name is Hoya mindorensis Schltr. Its native range extends from the Philippines to northern and central Borneo. 'Pink' is the flower-color selection. The wording in the title remains the sales name.
