Aylostera fiebrigii (Rebutia albiareolata) – miniature cactus with red-orange flowers

Aylostera fiebrigii, also known in horticulture as Rebutia albiareolata, is a small South American cactus appreciated for its compact habit, whitish areoles, and spectacular flowering. The body is globular to short cylindrical, green, and covered with numerous fine spines that give it a delicate and highly decorative appearance.

At maturity, the plant may produce offsets and form compact clusters. During the flowering period, it produces red to reddish-orange flowers, large in relation to the cactus’s size. The flowers develop characteristically from the lateral and lower areas of the body, and well-developed specimens may produce several buds in a single season.

• Light: prefers a very bright position and several hours of direct sunlight. 

• Substrate: porous, very well-drained, and with a significant mineral component.

• Watering: moderate during the active growing period; the substrate should be allowed to dry thoroughly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging.

• Winter dormancy: benefits from a cooler and drier period, with very limited watering. Seasonal dormancy encourages flowering.

• Temperature: prefers moderately warm to warm temperatures during the active growing period. Plants grown in pots should be protected from severe frost and, especially, from the combination of cold temperatures and wet substrate.

• Fertilization: moderate, during the growing period, using a fertilizer intended for cacti and succulents.
