Like Hoya lacunosa, krohniana tends to bloom continuously throughout the warm season. The flowers last 4-7 days, depending on growing conditions.
Hoya krohniana was published as a distinct species in 2009; before that, it was known and sold as Hoya lacunosa 'Heart Leaf'. New leaves are heart-shaped, but as the plant matures, some variability appears, with some leaves changing shape.
The foliage takes on a very pleasing appearance, with maroon - almost black - hues when the plant is grown in strong light. Good light also encourages abundant flowering.
