Eucalyptus XL - Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue'

Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' is a spectacular variety native to Australia, valued for its rounded, silvery-blue foliage and the intense, characteristic eucalyptus fragrance. It is a compact, evergreen shrub with dense branching, fast growth, and excellent resistance to low temperatures.

Unlike other eucalyptus species, 'Baby Blue' is a dwarf variety that typically does not exceed about 3 meters in height, making it suitable for both gardens and cultivation in large pots.

Uses

The foliage is highly prized in floral arrangements and bouquets due to its unique color and lasting scent. The plant tolerates pruning very well and regenerates quickly, producing new branches.

Thanks to the essential oils contained in its leaves, eucalyptus is known as a natural repellent for flies and mosquitoes, often planted on terraces, near pathways, or in gardens.

In some countries, this species is also cultivated for its very hard wood and for natural extracts used in products with antiseptic, repellent, or insecticidal properties.

Growing Conditions

• Prefers sunlight and open spaces;
• Adapts easily to most soil types, provided there is good drainage;
• Highly resistant to diseases and pests, naturally considered a pest-free species;
• Withstands temperatures down to approximately -18°C without additional protection.

In cases of severe frost, leaves may fall, but the plant will regrow in the next season.

Secret Garden Recommendation

We recommend planting eucalyptus directly in the garden or growing it in large pots placed outdoors during the warm season. It is a plant intended for outdoor cultivation and does not develop properly long-term in small pots or indoors.

After purchase, avoid sudden exposure to strong sunlight. Acclimate the plant gradually before final planting.

• The appearance of the leaves may vary from one specimen to another. As the plant matures, the leaves naturally change in shape and size.
• Some specimens may show leaves or branches with aesthetic defects or affected new growth, especially during the warm season. These issues are caused by international transport and are common for this sensitive variety, without affecting the plant’s viability.
• Although mature plants tolerate temperatures down to about -18°C, we do not recommend exposing young specimens to temperatures below -5°C until they are well-rooted and acclimated.
