Cymbidium erythraeum - fragrant

Cymbidium erythraeum is a fragrant Cymbidium species, appreciated for its elegant flower spikes and refined-looking blooms. Like many mountain Cymbidiums, it shows its full potential in a very bright location, with slight differences between day and night temperatures.

Light and temperature. Provide plenty of filtered light; in summer, it can be placed outdoors after acclimatization. Avoid excessive heat and stagnant air; cooler nights help the plant mature its pseudobulbs and prepare for flowering.

Watering and fertilizing. During growth, water thoroughly and allow the excess to drain away. Let the substrate approach dryness between waterings, without allowing it to become completely dry. During the active season, apply diluted orchid fertilizer.

Substrate and repotting. Use a stable pot and substrate for vigorous-growing orchids. Repot when new roots appear; mature plants flower better when they are not divided frequently.

Signs to watch for. Very dark leaves may indicate insufficient light; soft pseudobulbs indicate overwatering. A lack of flower spikes is often related to low light or excessively high nighttime temperatures.
