Catasetum pileatum var. aurea - a botanical species found in Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador, in low-altitude forests at approximately 100-200 meters, in tropical conditions with a long rainy season and a short dry period. It is a large epiphytic species that grows in intense heat conditions, with fusiform-ovoid pseudobulbs, grouped, with multiple nodes, covered by leaf sheaths. The leaves are distichous, lanceolate, slightly erect, and folded. It usually blooms in spring and summer, having a basal inflorescence, erect to pendulous, about 30 cm long, with 4 to 10 strongly fragrant, large flowers that fully open and appear on mature pseudobulbs.

This species was designated as the national flower of Venezuela until 1921.

The flowers show some variations in shades of yellow and green, depending on the flowering season and growing conditions.

Fragrant flowers: Yes

Flower size: 8-12 cm

📌 Note: Some specimens from this batch may show visible traces of a previous spider mite attack, such as fine spots, slightly discolored areas, or small imperfections on the leaves. The plants have been inspected and treated preventively, and are currently healthy with no active infestation. These marks are strictly aesthetic, specific to leaves previously affected, and do not affect the plant’s ability to continue normal growth.
