Piper Sylvaticum - an endemic species from the northeast of India. It stands out through the special appearance of its heart-shaped leaves, covered with a brushed silver splash, with prominent green veins.
The plant is climbing and belongs to the Piperaceae family, being related to pepper.
Here are some general tips for caring for this plant:
Light: Prefers indirect light, being adapted to grow in shaded or semi-shaded areas of forests. Exposure to direct sunlight can cause leaf burns.
Temperature: This tropical plant thrives in warm environments, between 18°C and 30°C. The minimum temperature it can tolerate is about 15°C.
Humidity: Piper sylvaticum requires a high humidity environment, between 60% and 80%, to develop properly.
Watering: The soil should be kept slightly moist, but not overly soaked. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while lack of water can cause leaf drying.
Soil: The plant prefers soil rich in organic matter, well drained. It is important that the soil is airy to avoid water stagnation at the roots.
Fertilizing: To support growth, you can apply a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted, once every 4-6 weeks during the active growing period (spring and summer). Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can negatively affect the plant.
Pruning: Piper sylvaticum can be pruned to control its growth and maintain a compact shape. Regular pruning also helps remove dead or damaged leaves.
Pest control: The plant can be affected by leaf aphids, mites, or scale insects, especially in low humidity or dry air conditions. It is good to check the leaves and stems regularly and use a natural insecticide or insecticidal soap if necessary.
Repotting: Repotting is done when the roots fill the pot, usually every 1-2 years.
Height including pot: approx. 25 cm
Pot diameter: 12 cm
