Phalaenopsis cochlearis is an epiphytic or lithophytic botanical species in the genus Phalaenopsis (family Orchidaceae), described by Holttum in 1964. It is native to the Malay Peninsula and Borneo, where it usually grows on limestone at approximately 500-700 m.

Botanical characteristics:

  • Flowers: Approximately 4-5 cm in diameter. Pale yellow / cream, glossy, with rusty stripes at the base of the petals. The lip is a more intense golden yellow, with a concave mid-lobe shaped like a spoon (hence the name cochlearis). A few flowers grow on branched spikes up to 50 cm long. It blooms in spring-summer, lasting 1-2 months.
  • Habit: Small to medium-sized plant, with 2-4 oblong-elliptic leaves, up to 22 cm long.
  • Special features: Rare species, critically endangered in its habitat. Valued for the spoon-shaped lip and pale yellow coloration.

Note: Botanical species with a sparse root system and distinctive appearance.
