Vrtni kaktus s plodovi in užitnimi listi - Opuntia humifusa (Hudičev jezik)
Opuntia humifusa is a highly valued outdoor cactus known for its excellent cold resistance and its exotic appearance, unusual in Romanian gardens. Native to North America, this species gradually forms low, spreading bushes made up of flat, fleshy segments with the typical look of an opuntia. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, xerophytic gardens, sunny slopes, or areas with very good drainage, where it can add a spectacular and slightly desert-like accent.
As the plant matures, it can produce large, yellow, very decorative flowers, followed by edible fruits. Due to its good frost resistance and low maintenance requirements, Opuntia humifusa is one of the most interesting options for those who want a cactus adapted for garden cultivation.
🌱 Botanical characteristics:
- Family: Cactaceae

✨ What makes it special:
- it is one of the few opuntias that can be successfully grown in the garden

📌 Note: Opuntia humifusa may show small natural imperfections, superficial marks, light scars, or shape differences between segments, occurring naturally or due to handling and transport. The plant should be handled carefully as it may have spines or fine glochids. Depending on the season and the plant’s age, flowering and fruiting may be temporarily absent. These aspects are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.
Frost resistance: up to approximately -20 / -23°C, under good conditions and with very well-drained substrate; excess moisture in the cold season is much more dangerous than the cold itself. In pots, it requires additional winter protection.
Height including pot: approx. 20 cm
Note: Stock plants do not have flowers or fruits.
