Dionaea muscipula ‘Maroon’, also known as Venus Flytrap Maroon, is a rare variety of carnivorous plant, appreciated for its intensely burgundy-red traps on the inside, which attract insects through color and nectar. The exterior remains green, offering a spectacular contrast. Like all Venus flytraps, it quickly closes the lobes when insects touch the sensitive hairs inside, making it both decorative and fascinating to observe.

🌿 Common names: Venus flytrap, carnivorous plant with lobes.

🌿 Botanical characteristics:

  • Full name: Dionaea muscipula ‘Maroon’

  • Family: Droseraceae

  • Origin: United States (North and South Carolina)

  • Leaves/traps: Intense burgundy-red inside, green outside, with toothed edges

  • Flowers: Small, white, appear rarely; for the plant’s health, removal is recommended

🌞 Growing conditions:

  • Light: Full sun at least 4–6 hours/day; strong light intensifies the red of the traps

  • Substrate: Nutrient-poor – acidic peat + perlite or quartz sand; no regular soil

  • Watering: Only with rainwater, distilled or osmosis water; substrate kept constantly moist

  • Temperature: 18–30°C in summer; winter dormancy at 0–10°C

  • Care: Do not fertilize, it takes nutrients from prey (small insects)

Why it’s worth choosing:

  • Spectacular traps, intense burgundy-red

  • Rare carnivorous plant, ideal for collectors

  • Easy to grow if basic rules are followed

  • Attracts and consumes insects, being both decorative and functional

⚠️ Note: During dormancy (winter), the plant reduces activity and some traps dry out – this is a natural process, and in spring it returns vigorous.
