Astrophytum asterias, commonly known as Silver Dollar Cactus, Star Cactus, or Sea Urchin Cactus, is a miniature collector’s cactus appreciated for its almost perfectly round shape, flattened body, and geometric rib pattern.

This mix may include specimens with different appearances: dark green plants, forms with fine or very dense white dots, as well as specimens resembling Super Kabuto-type selections. Each plant is different, and the natural pattern of the dots and areoles gives it an individual character.

Astrophytum asterias is spineless, making it suitable for collections, offices, bright windowsills, or arrangements with cacti and succulents.

🌵 Botanical characteristics:

• Botanical name: Astrophytum asterias
• Common names: Silver Dollar Cactus, Star Cactus, Sea Urchin Cactus
• Family: Cactaceae
• Shape: globular, slightly flattened, divided into clearly defined ribs
• Surface: green to dark green, with white dots or scales in varying proportions
• Spines: absent
• Growth: slow and compact
• Flowers: yellow, usually with a yellow-orange or reddish center
• Natural range of the species: southern Texas and northeastern Mexico

💧 Growing conditions and care:

Light: prefers a very bright location with gentle morning or evening sun. Plants should be gradually acclimated to direct sunlight, as sudden exposure to strong rays can cause sunburn.
Watering: water moderately only after the substrate has dried out completely. Water remaining around the roots can quickly cause the plant to rot.
Winter: reduce watering drastically, especially if the plant is kept in a cooler space.
Optimal temperature: approximately 18-28°C during the growing season. In winter, a bright, dry location protected from frost is recommended.
Humidity: prefers dry air and good ventilation.
Fertilization: occasionally, in spring and summer, with cactus fertilizer applied at a reduced dose.
Repotting: only when necessary, as the roots are sensitive to damage and excess moisture.

🌱 Recommended substrate:

A very well-draining substrate for cacti and succulents is recommended, with a high proportion of mineral components such as perlite, pumice, coarse sand, or volcanic rock. The pot must have effective drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

What makes it special:

• collector’s cactus with a geometric and symmetrical appearance;
• spineless;
• each specimen has a different pattern of white dots;
• suitable for small spaces and rare plant collections;
• requires infrequent watering and minimal care, provided excess water is avoided;
• can produce large flowers relative to the plant’s size.

📌 Note: The product is available as a mix. The plant shipped is selected at random, and the density of the white dots, color, number, and shape of the ribs may vary from the product images. Some specimens may have more white dots, while others may be predominantly green. These differences are natural and do not represent defects. Astrophytum asterias is sensitive to excess water, and slight changes in volume or appearance may occur during dormancy or after transport

The displayed price is for 1 plant. The plant is sold without flowers.
