Sansevieria is a plant native to Africa, Madagascar, and southern Asia, and is grown here as a houseplant.
Care:
-
Light: The plant prefers moderate indirect light but can also tolerate low light conditions. Avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight, which can burn the leaves.
-
Watering: Sansevieria requires moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. During winter, reduce watering frequency to prevent root rot.
-
Temperature: It thrives in most temperature conditions found in a typical home. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.
-
Humidity: It does not require special humidity levels; it can tolerate dry indoor air, but occasional misting can help remove dust from the leaves.
-
Fertilizing: Feed the plant with a fertilizer for fleshy plants during the growing season, spring and summer, once a month.
-
Repotting: Repot only when the roots begin to come out of the pot, usually every 2-3 years.
Sansevieria is famous for converting CO2 into O2 at night. It is said that in an environment with no fresh air at all, if you have 6-8 Sansevieria plants per person, they will produce enough oxygen to live. NASA ranked it among the top plants that absorb toxins, especially nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde.
Due to its brittle leaves, this plant may show small blemishes caused by handling. These do not affect the health or growth of the plant.
