Paphiopedilum spicerianum (Milano) is a terrestrial / lithophytic species in the Paphiopedilum genus (Orchidaceae family), native to northeastern India, Myanmar, and southern China (Yunnan). “Milano” usually indicates its provenance or a cultivated selection, not a separate grex.

Botanical characteristics:

  • Flowers: 5.5-7.5 cm in diameter. Usually one flower per stem (rarely two). The dorsal sepal is white, curved forward, with a central maroon / purplish-red stripe and a greenish base. The petals are yellowish green, wavy, with a brownish-purple central vein. The lip (slipper) is pale green, flushed with brown and marked with dark veins. Staminode white, with a central purple circle. No detectable fragrance.
  • Growth habit: Compact rosette with 4-6 glossy, dark green leaves, 15-30 cm long. No pseudobulbs. Upright flower stem, 13-35 cm.
  • Special features: A classic Paphiopedilum species, recognized by the white “flag” of its dorsal sepal. It flowers more frequently in autumn and winter. Do not allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings.

Recommended substrate: Ludisia, Vanilla, Paphiopedilum Substrate
