Hoya heuschkeliana 'Yellow' - fragrant flowers

Hoya heuschkeliana 'Yellow' is the selection of the accepted species Hoya heuschkeliana, a compact vine from the Philippines, with small, thick, ovate to obovate foliage. Under good growing conditions, it produces umbels of yellow, waxy, urn- or bell-shaped, fragrant flowers, slightly larger than those of the pink form. It has a short-vining habit, suitable for growing on a support or allowing to trail. Yellow is not a separate taxon; it is a sales label referring to the flower color.

Foliage and growth. The foliage is small, thick, ovate to obovate and slightly curved. In cultivation, the leaves are usually reported as approximately 3–7 cm long and 2–3 cm wide; in intense light, they may remain smaller and develop a reddish color. Without flowers, the yellow form looks like the pink form. The vine is slender, suitable for growing on a support or in a hanging display.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers of this commercial form are yellow, waxy, urn- or bell-shaped, and grouped in umbels. Horticultural sources describe them as slightly larger than the pink flowers of the same species. An inflorescence remains decorative for around one week. The fragrance is most commonly described as having caramel notes; perception may vary. In cultivation, flowering is reported mainly during the warm season and is encouraged by bright light, at least partially filtered.

Botanical identity. Hoya heuschkeliana Kloppenb. is an accepted species, published in 1989, native to the Philippines, where it grows as an epiphytic or lithophytic vine in a humid tropical biome. 'Yellow' is a sales label for the form with yellow flowers.
