Hoya australis ssp. tenuipes

Hoya australis subsp. tenuipes is a botanical subspecies from New Guinea and Queensland, with a slender, climbing, vining habit. The foliage is green, glossy, and fleshy, while young shoots may temporarily develop reddish hues. Under good growing conditions, the plant produces umbels of pale, waxy flowers with a reddish center and a noticeable fragrance. Its vigorous growth and orderly foliage make it suitable for training on a support or adding to a Hoya collection.

Name and origin. Hoya australis subsp. tenuipes (K.D.Hill) P.I.Forst. & Liddle is an accepted subspecies, not a cultivar. Its verified native range includes New Guinea and Queensland in northern Australia. In nature, it grows as a vine in humid tropical forests, including lowland areas and swamp forests.

Foliage and growth. The stems are slender, flexible, and climbing. The leaves are opposite, thick, and fleshy, approximately 5–10 cm long and 3–6 cm wide. Their surface is smooth and glossy, while young growth may show reddish hues.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers measure approximately 10–11 mm and appear in umbel-like inflorescences. The pale corolla contrasts with the reddish central area. The flowers are fragrant and may last for approximately one week; fragrance intensity and flowering depend on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Product presentation. The pot may contain 3–4 plants at different stages of development. The decorative pot is not included in the price.
