Hippeastrum ‘Tarantula’ is a spectacular cultivar from the Spider Group, prized for its unusual flowers with very narrow, elongated, slightly twisted petals, creating an exotic, almost spider-like appearance. The flowers combine shades of lime green, cream, and reddish pink, with stripes and more intense accents toward the center of the flower.

The cultivar is known for the highly distinctive shape of its flowers, and the KAVB classification places it in the Spider Group, characterized by narrow, slightly overlapping petals and prominent stamens, which contribute to the flower’s ornamental effect.

🌿 Botanical characteristics

  • Name: Hippeastrum ‘Tarantula’

  • Horticultural group: Spider Group
  • Plant type: perennial bulbous plant
  • Flowers: large, star-shaped, with very narrow, slightly twisted petals

☀️ Growing conditions and care

  • Planting: plant the bulb so that approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of its upper part remains above the substrate
  • Light: very bright location, with strong indirect light or a few hours of gentle sun
  • Starting temperature: approximately 20-24°C
  • Watering after planting: sparingly until active growth begins; then water moderately
  • Growing medium: airy, fertile, and very well-draining
  • Pot: relatively snug, with good drainage holes
  • Fertilizing: after leaves appear, during the active growth period
  • After flowering: remove the flower stalk once the flowers have faded, and keep the leaves to replenish the bulb’s reserves

Hippeastrum bulbs need warmth to initiate growth quickly, and flowering can occur under good conditions approximately 6-10 weeks after planting.

🌱 Growing medium recommendation

We recommend a fertile, airy, well-draining growing medium that retains moderate moisture without keeping the base of the bulb constantly wet.

Very good drainage is essential to reduce the risk of rot.

The product for sale is the bulb only, without a pot or growing medium.

Bulbs are living organisms, and their size, shape, the color of their outer skins, and degree of dehydration may vary naturally. Small dry areas, superficial scars, or peeling of the outer skins may be present without normally affecting the bulb’s viability.
