Catasetum pileatum var. aurea - botanical species found in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador, in low-altitude forests, at approximately 100-200 meters, in tropical conditions with a long rainy season and a short dry period. It is a large epiphytic species, which grows in conditions of intense heat, with fusiform-ovoid pseudobulbs, grouped, with several nodes, covered by sheaths with leaves. The leaves are distichous, lanceolate, slightly erect and folded. This species was designated as the national flower of Venezuela until 1921.

The flowers show some variations, in shades of yellow and green, depending on the flowering season and growing conditions.
