Peristeria Parotia is a striking hybrid obtained by crossing Peristeria elata and Peristeria cerina, registered in 2015 by A. Misang. This hybrid is considered a “primary hybrid,” meaning it comes from the direct crossing of two pure species, each contributing 50% to the plant’s traits.

Characteristics

- Flowers: Peristeria Parotia inherits traits from both parents, featuring spectacular flowers that can vary in shades of pink.

- Leaves: The plant has large, pleated leaves that grow from the top of each pseudobulb, a typical feature for many species in the Peristeria genus.

- Pseudobulbs: These pseudobulbs are large and help support the plant and store nutrients, allowing it to endure dry periods better than other orchids.

Like other orchids in the Peristeria genus, this hybrid requires growing conditions similar to a tropical climate: strong but indirect light, high humidity, and regular watering during active growth periods. It is also important that the plant is placed in a well-ventilated environment to prevent mold and other issues related to excessive moisture. In terms of care, Peristeria is very similar to the Catasetum genus - Catasetum care guide.

Flower size: 6-8 cm

Fragrant flowers: YES

Note: Plants imported from Thailand, with a reduced root system (partially cut roots) to allow importation. They have been replanted in our greenhouse by supplementing with bark.
