Hoya loheri

Hoya loheri is an accepted botanical species, described in 1991 by Kloppenburg and native to the Philippines. It is a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte with narrow, glossy, slightly curved foliage. The leaves are elongated and deep green, densely arranged on vines that start out compact. Under good growing conditions, it produces umbels of star-shaped flowers ranging from orange-red to maroon, with a lighter corona and a finely pubescent surface. The fragrance is sweet and subtle. Importing from Taiwan does not change its native range.

Foliage and growth. The leaves are small to medium-sized, elongated and semi-succulent, with a glossy surface and a slight curve to the leaf blade. The shoots are thin; the plant remains compact at first and develops longer vines as it matures. It has no splash and no variegation.

Flowers and fragrance. The star-shaped flowers are grouped in dense umbels. Their color ranges from orange-red to maroon, with a yellow or lighter corona. The corolla surface is finely pubescent. The fragrance is horticulturally confirmed as sweet and moderately intense. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted name is Hoya loheri Kloppenb., published in Fraterna in 1991. Its native range is the Philippines.
