Hoya finlaysonii (Sarawak)

The foliage is thick and elliptical, with dark green veins on a green background. The silver splash appears on the green tissue in irregular patches; it is not variegation. The intensity of the splash varies from one leaf to another. The growth habit is vining. Under good growing conditions, cream-colored umbels with burgundy tips may appear. The flowers are fragrant. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions. Care is simple, and the plant grows steadily.

Foliage and splash. The leaves are elliptical and firm, with a contrasting network of dark veins. The background remains green. When present, the silver appears as splash on the leaf blade, not as a border or cream-colored center. In the photographed lot, the vein pattern is more visible than the splash. We do not promise a fully silver leaf on every specimen.

Flowers and fragrance. The gallery shows spherical umbels with small, star-shaped cream flowers, burgundy on the distal half, and an open corona. Nectar may appear as droplets. In cultivation, the species’ fragrance is often described as similar to cinnamon; its intensity is not guaranteed. The flowers last only a short time after opening. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted name of the species is Hoya finlaysonii Wight, Contr. Bot. India: 38 (1834). It is an epiphytic plant native from southern Thailand to western Malesia: Borneo, Malaya, Sumatra, and Thailand. Penang is the type locality, not the origin of this lot.
