Chamaecereus hibrid
Chamaecereus is characterized by its small, cylindrical, and dense stems that grow in clusters. The stems are light green and can reach a length of about 10-15 cm, often forming a dense mat. The main attraction of this cactus is its cerise (deep pink) flowers, which are quite large in relation to the size of the plant and appear in spring or early summer. The flowers add a nice contrast against the green stems and can last for several days.
Care:
-
Light: Chamaecereus prefers direct sunlight, but must be protected from the scorching midday sun in very hot climates. Sunlight is essential for flowering.
-
Watering: As with most cacti, watering should be moderate. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
-
Soil: Use a well-drained soil mix specifically designed for cacti. A poor soil with good drainage is ideal to prevent excessive water retention which can lead to root rot.
-
Temperature: Chamaecereus is resistant to low temperatures, but should be protected from frost. If you live in an area where temperatures drop below freezing, it is ideal to move the plant indoors or to a protected space during the winter.
-
Fertilization: Fertilize lightly during the active growth period (spring and summer) using a special cactus fertilizer, diluted to half the recommended strength.
