Cattleya can be placed outdoors during summer, in the light
The ideal temperature for Cattleya is between 18 and 22 ˚C.
Cattleya flowers last for two to three weeks.
During winter, water only once every ten days. In summer, you can water it a bit more often, depending on the location. Rainwater is best for the plants. Soak the plant until no more bubbles appear, then let it drain well before putting it back.
Give the plant a special fertilizer once a month. Feed Cattleya twice during the winter period. After flowering, treat the plant the same as during flowering. There is no need to cut the stem. A new stem will appear at the base.
A new flower stem grows from the sheath at the bottom of the leaf. The sheath offers protection in the early stage. The whole process, from the growth of a new branch to its flowering, takes between six and nine months.
Repot Cattleya into a larger pot every two years. Use fine bark (soil) when the orchid has small leaves and thicker bark when the orchid has larger leaves.
It is important to keep the plant vigorous, as only new shoots produce flowers.
